Grace Coddington for Vogue: December 2009 -- The Enchanted: Hansel & Gretel

The only two monthly Vogue issues that I really care about are the September (for obvious reasons, it's the biggest issue of the year in size and notoriety) and the December issues. But if I had to pick, my favorite issue would be December because this is when the iconic and visionary Grace Coddington does her famous imaginary and fairy-tale themed Point of View high fashion spreads in the magazine. This December 2009 Hansel and Gretel shoot which was inspired by that year's  Metropolitan Opera's production of the classic tale and shot by the legendary, Annie Leibovitz, is one of my favorites. The shoot features the English model and actress Lily Cole, the yet to be famous (this was shot in 2009), Social Network star and new Spiderman,  Andrew Garfield, and Mother Monster that is Lady Gaga. The shoot is everything that a Coddington and Leibovitz production is -- it had high fashion, as evident by the designer dresses and shoes that Lily and Gaga wore on the shoot, it was playful, imaginative, and whimsical. Producing a great photograph is one thing, but telling a beautiful story with the clothes, the setting, and props is something greater. That's why Grace is my favorite and my hero.
